Life skills are important during these challenging times
Have you noticed all the food photos on social media lately? Well, I've been posting a few myself because food brings comfort - just like many other life skills. It's time to focus on real-life school = life skills. The skills we need for everyday life, that offer us the ability to care for ourselves and others.
Have we put these skills lower on the skill development scale? Somehow I think so but I'd love to hear from you.
Life skills offer so much to us and our children particularly right now. The ability to bake/cook and eat together - it brings a sense of calm and comfort. And even though my older children are away from home - they have the ability to create some of this comfort for themselves - cooking food and being with family until we can be together again.
So I'm looking at these skills in a whole new light again as an Occupational Therapist. The ability to cook, clean and look after our selves and others is a high priority right now. So take time with your kids to develop some of these skills. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, and the art of looking after ourselves physically and mentally - showers and getting outside.
What life skills are you and your children doing together? What does it offer them and you?
